Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation

Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation/ Vaginal Tightening

What is laser vaginal rejuvenation / vaginal tightening?

Laser vaginal rejuvenation is a quick and painless procedure that uses laser technology to restore the vaginal wall. It is also known as vaginal tightening.

It does not require surgery and results in a tighter and more elastic vaginal area.

It is a very simple procedure that does not waste time; it can be performed even during your lunch break. Most clients do not experience any form of pain or downtime after the procedure. Treatments are typically planned to take place at four to six-week intervals for three to six sessions. Possible side effects include slight bleeding and discomfort. Vaginal dryness and rash which is more likely if the area treated is exposed to heat of friction during the first 72 hours

Why is laser vaginal rejuvenation done?

The wall of the vagina can change for a number of reasons, leading to vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse  and some other symptoms that can affect quality of life negatively. Some women experience vaginal dryness after the menopause, or find that the vagina becomes less elastic with age or after childbirth.

There are other implications to this loss of elasticity. Vaginal ph is changed. Which then makes vaginal infection more likely.

For women with vaginal dryness, oestrogen is commonly offered as a treatment option. Though it is quite an effective treatment in most cases it may not work in small number of women, some ladies may not wish to use it or it may be unsuitable for women who have had breast or ovarian cancer. In these situations, laser vaginal rejuvenation may be a preferable option.

What does laser vaginal rejuvenation involve?

The treatment involves 3-6 sessions 4-6 weeks apart. The number depends on the response.

It involves inserting a laser probe gently into vagina. The probe treats entire vaginal tissue with a laser beam in as it’s slowly pulled out.

The beam makes tiny holes into the vagina, works on the tissue underneath and stimulates new blood flow which in turn improves tissue growth.

The procedure lasts for less than 10 minutes. It is not painful but is just uncomfortable. There is no preparation required before the procedure and there is minimal aftercare required.

Side effects of CO2 laser vaginal rejuvenation include warmth, redness, swelling, bleeding, discharge, and small white dots or perforations on the external genitalia.

Laser vaginal rejuvenation aftercare

Some women report side effects of slight discomfort and swelling after the treatment, but these symptoms generally disappear after a few days.

Your doctor or nurse will advise you not to have sex or use a tampon for four to five days after the procedure to allow the vaginal wall to settle.

You should notice an improvement immediately, as well as continuous improvement over the next few months. Results last for about 18 months to two years, and most women will have a “maintenance” treatment every 12 to 18 months.
